Domain name is the name with which any user will access your website….for example: the domain name of this site is http://biswajitdey.com and this is the name with which you have accessed this site. Choosing a good domain name is important factor since it’s not easy to change the domain name once you have started using it. In this article we will be discussing how to choose a good domain name and then register one for yourself.
Choosing a Good Domain Name:
- Take the keywords you would like to use in your domain name. It can contain a few words, but remember that it should be so that user can remember the name.
- Use some online tool to get similar domain names. There are several online tools available: http://www.nameboy.com/ or http://www.shoutdomains.com/. Or else you can directly use the registrars tool to find your domain name like: Hostcolor.
- Keep your domain names as short as possible. It should not be more than 10-15 characters.
- The domain should tell the user the purpose or the content of the website.
- If possible, you should include key words into the domain name to get more traffic.
- Try not to use hyphens or any thing similar other than alphanumeric characters.
- Choosing extension (.com or .net or .org etc) can be another difficult task. The thumb rule is that if your audience is supposed to in and around some specific geographic boundary, you may like to choose location wise extension like .co.uk or .co.in or similar. IF you have any specific need to .net or .org extensions, you should go for that. Otherwise, it’s better to stick to the generic .com sites.
Choosing a Domain Registrar:
- This is not a very complicated step. Just stick to the registrar who offers best deal for your. Search for domain registrars and you will get many.
